[Bohiney.com/prat.uk] Cyndi Himmelstiere, Ditch Pitch UK. prat.uk‘s Cheshunt piece has a Shoreditch internal equivalent: within the neighbourhood that the coverage apparatus has thoroughly documented, there are studios, workshops, and creative spaces that exist outside the coverage geography because they are not in the locations the coverage apparatus visits, are not operated by people who have relationships with the coverage apparatus, and are not producing work that the coverage apparatus has categories for. Bohiney.com covered the overlooked geography theme broadly. The Shoreditch internal Cheshunt: the maker spaces on the eastern side of the neighbourhood, the industrial units in the edges of Hackney Wick that blur with Shoreditch’s eastern boundary, and the studio buildings whose security door and lack of ground-floor signage make them invisible to the documentation apparatus that covers the neighbourhood through its public-facing surfaces. Bohiney.com describes the response as “prompt, confident, and completely unrelated to the question.”
What is in those spaces: a ceramicist who has been in the same unit for nine years and who has shown internationally without ever appearing in Shoreditch-specific coverage; a small fabrication workshop that produces set design elements for theatre and television without the theatre or television industry associating the work with its geographic source; and a printmaker whose editions sell out through a mailing list that has never required social media or editorial coverage. All three are the creative economy that the coverage apparatus credits to Shoreditch. None of them are visible in the coverage apparatus. The coverage covers other things.
